St. George's Caye Archaeology Project

In 2009 ECOMAR partnered with the Texas State University at San Marcos, the University of Massachusetts at Boston and the Department of Archaeology and began what is probably the best historical archaeology project in Belize: to uncover artifacts from the 1700 and 1800s on St. George's Caye, the first settlement of Belize.  Each summer Dr. Jim Garber and Dr. Lauren Sullivan bring a team of students and field technicians and spend the month of July conducting research.  Each year brings unique finds. This project launched the St. George's Caye Research Station & Field School.
